4% Lift in Incremental Revenue, Bookaway Turned a Dead-End to an Additional Revenue Stream

Goals

  • Every traveler who hit the no-results page walked away with nothing. Bookaway aimed to recover revenue from a page that returned nothing, without risking a single ticket sale.

Results

  • ~4% in incremental accommodation revenue
  • 9% click-through rate for the banner
  • No impact on core conversions

"The no-results iteration was successful. We saw traction and honored our conversion guardrail."

The Background

Bookaway, a part of Travelier Group, specializes in selling ground and sea transportation tickets, like buses, trains, ferries, shuttles and transfers. Like every platform, sometimes, some searches return nothing. The traveler hits a no-results page and leaves empty-handed.

That page looked like the end of the road. It isn't. The traveler still has a destination in mind and still needs somewhere to stay. The intent didn't disappear when the ticket search failed.

The Challenge

The no-results page was a pure loss for the business. Every traveler who landed there walked away with nothing.

Bookaway looked at it differently. Anything earned on that page was incremental revenue and the core booking flow was untouched by default.

The solution: Stay22 Powered Accommodation Banner

Bookaway placed a Stay22-powered accommodation banner on the no-results page, surfacing hotels for the destination the traveler had just searched. The traveler's intent was already there; the banner simply helped travelers book accommodation.

The Test

Bookaway tested the Stay22 banner across several placements, each against one non-negotiable rule: it mustn't hurt core ticket conversion, or interfere with users’ flow.

Banners on other search pages didn't clear that bar. The no-results page did.

It Worked

The banner had a 9% click-through rate, and 7.3% of travelers who clicked through booked a hotel. In total, it added ~4% in incremental accommodation revenue with no impact on core conversions.

Stay22’s accommodation banner earned on a page that previously had not been actively leveraged for monetization/revenue.
