We traveled to Mafia Island specifically to see the whale sharks. We went out the first day with a highly rated local tour company and did not see any whale sharks which was unusual. The next day we decided to go out with Hassan, the manager at Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge. Hassan was determined and we did in fact see whale sharks!! Hassan took such good care of us. I was so happy to see the whale sharks but I was getting tired after a few swims so I was content to stay in the boat and let my family continue swimming. After resting a bit, Hassan jumped in to see if it was a good view for me. He came back to the boat and let me know it was a great view if I was up to swimming again. I jumped back in and had the very best time! I cannot say enough good things about Hassan and everyone at the Lodge. They are all so kind and helpful. I also highly recommend the massages at Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge. Thank you Hassan and everyone at the Lodge.

Lovely clean hotel in excellent location. the AC is key! It is hot here. Pool was lovely, food was good. Staff pleasant and front desk very helpful. Rooms were clean.

I just came back from a week in Kita Kiblu and I wish I could have stayed longer! Everyone at Kita Kiblu is so kind, welcoming and fun; when my travel plans changed last minute I was welcomed back as a friend and I very much hope to visit again soon. As a solo traveller, it was very easy to socialize with guests due to the friendly vibes, lovely bar with views of the sunset and the communal dining. The food at lunch and dinner was excellent and incredibly good value - we had a three course dinner including fresh fish every day and vegetarian guests are well catered-for. My room was very cute and the outdoor shower is lovely. The whale shark encounters were very well-run and Luka, the whale shark interns and the boat crew ensured we had a good experience. The manager Betty works so hard to look after everyone and creates a very special atmosphere on Mafia Island. Eva and the reception staff were super friendly and really helpful! The property is beautiful, food is delicious, and the staff was very kind. I highly recommend Butiama to anyone traveling abroad. Magida island was phenomenal because of their hospitality.

The Hotel did not keep our reservation. So arrived only to find there is no room for us. This has never accured to me in all my travels around the globe !!! Dont risk it. I do not reccomend booking this hotel if you really need a room to stay !!!!

I stayed at Mgeni homestay for 2.5 weeks. Ally (the owner) and Bunda (the housekeeper), were lovely people that warmly welcomed me. They were always there if I had any issues. The breakfast was very good and big. The room was simple but comfertable. Overall I really recommend this place. Its the cheapest stay on the island, and you get a great value for the money!! Asante sana. I will come back!
