About this property

Basecamp For Your Buena Vista Adventure -STR-158

You’ll be staying in South Main River Park, a New Urbanist community being built on the Arkansas River in the town of Buena Vista. If your priorities are 1) convenient access to the area’s many recreational activities, 2) a beautiful location at 3) an affordable price, our apartment may be just what you're looking for.

You can launch a kayak, hop on a mountain bike or wear out your hiking shoes by just stepping out the front door. Just steps to the South Main whitewater launch area, kayak play hole and Whitewater and Arkansas River Trails at this affordable rate. These trails are tied to the Barbara Whipple Trail, Midland Bike Trail and Four Mile Travel Management Area. 175,000 acres of wilderness and BLM lands are your backyard. A skate park, pump track, and several playgrounds are just a few blocks away.

Shopping, restaurants, equipment rentals, drive-in theatre, Community Center, museum, town library and other amenities are within easy walking distance. The Eddyline Brewery and Restaurant is at the other end of our block. After a hard day of recreating you can either sit down for beer and fire baked pizza or you can sit in your own courtyard and watch the sunset over Mt. Princeton and the Continental Divide. Don't forget to drop by the Midland Stop for a cup of coffee and delicious gelato! Enjoy watching the kayakers and rafters running the rapids or bikers, hikers and rock climbers ascending 9600 foot Midland Hill on the other side of the river from South Main's 'Living Room Without Walls'. During summer evenings head on over to Music on the Beach, a place where you can enjoy free live music (TBD by covid restrictions).

South Main architectural standards are creating an authentic traditional neighborhood. High quality public space is designed for walking and creating community. You will be staying on the first floor of a 3-story classical style stone and stucco building. The apartment’s spacious living area and separate bedroom will sleep four easo;y. An open kitchen and dining area bring the total floor space to about 850 sq.ft. Entry is through a courtyard and large porch on the west side of the building. There is a good view toward 14,000+ foot Mt. Princeton and the Continental Divide, but none toward the River. The courtyard provides a private place for dining and socializing away from Main Street and the public square. The covered porch offers shelter and shade. Priced at less than the best hotel in town, we want to build a loyal core of vacationing guests who share our joy of living here. Our apartment is clean, homey and affordable, but not luxury living.

PLEASE NOTE: The apartment is below the main house. We have 3 young children who are home most days, but in bed on the upper floors around 7:30pm. Because of the nature of the building, you will hear typical noises of people living upstairs.

Perfect location for the purpose of our trip. The apartment was very quiet and comfortable. I would recommend a short description of the location of the lock box in your narrative. I would like to thank the host's father for his assistance in getting us checked in.

Our stay
Owner was fantastic to communicate with. Bed was a memory foam but it felt more like a block of concrete with a sponge on top. Wife had to sleep on the couch.

Great Location
Great property with plenty of space and great location in town. Only complaint would be the bed is pretty firm which just isn’t our preference.

Bob is the father of three daughters and one son, Retired Lutheran minister and academic, co-founder and owner of two businesses: Cambridge Financial Advisors, LLC and People's Financial Advisor, LLC, enjoying a second career as a Fee-Only Financial Planner. An outdoor enthusiast, love running, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, exploring, history, reading, meeting people and learning something new every day.

The majority of your communication will be with my youngest daughter, Stephanie, though you might see me out shoveling snow in the winter, or on the trails taking my daily walks in the warmer weather! Stephanie is a wife and mom of three humans and two furbabies. She enjoys spending time outside with the kids, hiking, and reading books on one of the upper porches. You may see Stephanie out taking walks with the kids and dogs or heading out for a run along the river.

Why they chose this property

This 1 bedroom, 1 bath first floor apartment offers an unparalleled South Main experience. You are in heart of the subdivision within steps to all of Buena Vista's outdoor activities. The master bedroom features a spacious walk-in closet and private access to the full bath. In the living room is a Smart TV with cable and a blu ray/dvd player for those evenings after an adventurous day to wind down and prep yourself for the next day's expeditions. With a fully stocked kitchen, you can enjoy prepping your own meals and enjoy a shaded dining experience on the covered porch. Plenty of storage on this covered porch for your kayaks, bikes, rafts or whatever gear you may be bringing. Washer and dryer in the laundry room (detergent not provided). This is the ideal place to stay for the adventurer.

What makes this property unique

South Main River Park is a New Urbanist development with access to the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area and Pike-San Isabel National Forest. Our "back yard" is 175,000 acres of wilderness and BLM recreation area. We can step out our front door for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, cross county skiing, wilderness camping, snow shoeing, four-wheeling, panning for gold and exploring historic ghost towns. If I have to work, I prefer to do it in the environment of 14,000 foot mountains. There's never a bad day when you're surrounded by the towering peaks of the Sawatch, Sangre de Christo and Mosquito Ranges of the Rocky Mountains. Those same towering mountains on three sides create a protective wall for what the state climatologist calls 'The Banana Belt of the Rocky Mountains'. Winters on the valley floor are relatively warm and mild compared to the mountains around us. We actually enjoy a high desert climate with an average of 10 inches of rainfall.
