About this property

Denali Park Place - Alaskan elegance

I have lived in Alaska for 40 years and traveled by dog sled, kayak, small plane and boat throughout the state. I have been hosting guests from around the world since 2006, and love telling folks about Alaska. My sled dog Vincent is often available to be admired and petted if you've left your own pets at home and are in need of a "dog fix". Feasting on the homemade heirloom sourdough waffles is also a special treat!

You do need your own transportation to stay here. There are no shuttles or taxis.

Rooms are large and filled with natural light in a space made for mountain living. When it’s time to retire from the day, unwind in the open and airy living room and enjoy the panoramic views from large picture windows.

The bedroom offers a sumptuous Queen-size bed, complete with a down comforter and loads of fluffy pillows. A living room sofa also unfolds into an inviting Queen-size bed.

The fully equipped kitchen has spices, oils, teas and coffee (any mode you want to make it – drip, French press, programmable coffee maker) as well as flour and popcorn.
You will also find all the fixings for traditional sourdough waffles. A hands-on experience, you are provided with everything you need to make your own delicious sourdough waffles! Sourdough was a staple in Alaska history and this heirloom sourdough comes with a fascinating history you can read about at Alaska’s Golden Spoon. (It is also featured in The Homesteader’s Handbook by Tricia Brown)

The laundry room is equipped with a state-of-the-art washer and dryer, and laundry soap. The bathroom is stocked with towels, soap, shampoo and toilet paper – and even bubble bath for those inclined!

The artwork that graces the walls are pieces I have collected since coming to Alaska in 1981. (and I love telling stories about every one of them!) A brochure with a brief history of each piece will make you too fall in love with the great artists of the Last Frontier!

Hi-speed Internet and a large collection of Alaskan books will round out your entertainment needs.

GUEST ACCESS
You will have access to the entire upstairs of the house. The downstairs garage is merely storage and cleaning supplies, which we respectfully request no entrance.

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
I live in a small cabin on the property. You can reach me by text or phone. I usually work mornings guiding tours in the park, and am usually available to answer questions or offer advice on the local area in the late afternoon and evenings.

Contrary to most vacation rentals, there are NO additional cleaning fees on this property!

Savor your own fresh prepared meals at home or visit one of the locally owned restaurants that abound. In fact, the renowned 229 Parks Restaurant & Tavern is just a short drive away – but be sure and make reservations well advance.

Minutes away, Denali National Park offers visitors a variety of options from hikes to tours to experiences that will last a life time.

Wonderful property near Denali Park entrance
Our family of 4 really enjoyed our stay at this property. Located just a few miles from the Denali park entrance, it was convenient enough to reach the national park easily but is a distance away to have a much more private, serene setting. Everything inside was clean and as advertised. Highly recommended!

Wonderful
Comfortable apartment 15 minutes south of Denali with well organized kitchen. Several little gifts to enhance our stay. Many Alaskan resources to read and artwork to enjoy! Only hiccup was directions said Trail and road sign said Loop. Will stay there again when we go back!

Amazing Find near Denali National Park
We had an absolutely wonderful time at Lisa's place. Just down the road from Denali National Park with all the comforts of home and then some! Lisa was half the adventure for us as we devoured her book on running the Iditarod while staying at her place. Even saw some of the dogs running by one morning on a practice run! 10/10 recommend, would absolutely stay again.

It's Grrrrreeeeaaat!
Staying here makes you feel like you know Alaska better than when you arrived. Everything you need is there and tastefully done. Lisa puts her heart and love of this land into a VRBO in a way I have not seen done before. Stay here and you will be glad you did!

I have spent my adult life in love with Alaska and have explored in a variety of ways - working with the Iditarod and doing it my self in 2002 (a book, Running with Champions, tells that story). Hiking and kayaking has taken me to remote corners of the state (in 2017 I traveled a 1000 miles of the Yukon River). Also, loving history, I have traveled to remote areas of the state and crafted countless stories I share as a guide in Denali Park. I LOVE sharing my knowledge of The Last Frontier with guests!

David and I met in 1983 while commercial fishing on Kodiak Island. We bought our first fishing operation a couple years later and found remote property in 1989. While Kodiak's Uganik Bay is still home, after commercially fishing for 24 years I decided to try something else. One of my current jobs is as a tour guide in Denali National Park. David is still fishing for salmon and halibut on Kodiak Island so we commute between two of the most beautiful places in the world. I am in love with Alaska, heart and soul. The artwork and books in my house and the Denali Park Place are part of my personal collection of favorites. If you like history just ask me about the Alaskan flag in the hall - came from the person who designed it... or the autographed book by the very first person to lead a successful climb up Mount McKinley in 1914! Sometimes I think the only reason I want to provide a vacation rental is to show off this place I love so dearly... Alaska.

Why they chose this property

In 1997 we went on a vacation that changed our lives. Living in Kodiak, we thought it would be a cool winter vacation to go to Nome to see the finish of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. I became obsessed. Poor David! First I worked as a volunteer with the Iditarod, then I got a job training racing huskies, and then I wanted land near the huskies I trained. In 2002 I did the 1049 mile race across Alaska, finishing the Iditarod in 14 days with a wonderful team of dogs. My book, 'Running with Champions: A Midlife Journey on the Iditarod Trail', has been very successful and once again changed my life's direction (and David's!). We bought land in the interior of Alaska and now call both Kodiak and Denali home.

What makes this property unique

If you would like privacy and a touch of elegance after your day in the park - or a recovery period during a demanding vacation - this Getaway will delight you.
The community of Denali borders Denali National Park and Preserve. Minutes away from this secluded property are all the amenities of Denali National Park - tours, restaurants, hiking, shopping, wildlife viewing. There is something for everybody.
My dogs were from a winning Iditarod team, so if you are interested in getting to know some retired champions, they will be more than willing to accommodate you!
The artwork is from my personal collection, pieces that I am passionate about and that should delight you as well.

This really is a pleasant place. Become a neighbor and see for yourself...

I also supply some of my Heirloom Sourdough Starter so you can make yourself some delicious hotcakes from real Alaskan sourdough! It's easy - you'll love it! I consider myself a sourdough genealogist (!) because I am tracking the history and writing a book on this particular heirloom sourdough. Read about it on one of my sites - the history is fantastic and the taste is even better!
