About this property

Cosy modern cottage in historic harbour town

A lovely sunny cottage nestled in an area of native bush and garden with harbour views. It is in a quiet part of the township, walking distance to the hospital and three minutes' drive to the car ferry and shopping area. Rawene is an historic town known as the car ferry town where the vehicular ferry departs on a regular basis to transport travellers across to the north side of the harbour. Rawene is one of the oldest settlements in New Zealand. It has a small supermarket, cafe, garage and petrol station, takeaways, art and craft galleries, chemist and hotel (currently closed for renovation). Your hosts are locals and can help make your stay a memorable one and can share their knowledge about Hokianga's interesting bi-cultural history. Meals and tours by arrangement. BBQ available (one off cleaning and gas charge) There is a $5 a day surcharge for the charging of electric vehicles.

The cottage has a pantry with tea, coffee, condiments and spreads and a few basics in case you have forgotten to bring something. Milk and butter are provided by not bread.

Rawene is 15 minutes from Opononi made famous by Opo the dolphin in the 1950s, 45 minutes from Tane Mahuta, the majestic kauri tree in Waipoua forest, and a 15 minute ferry crossing away from the historic township of Kohukohu. It is roughly an hour across to the Bay of Islands and just over two hours drive to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga).

Cozy home, everything in order, helpful booklet full of many many walks/hikes in surrounding area. Lovely deck and garden area, beach towels to use, would stay here again. And try the Boat Shed restaurant!

Rawene Cottage is an idyllic location on historic Hokianga Harbor. There is a vibrant local arts community, beautiful hikes to see the Kauri trees and of course, miles of beaches. One could not ask for better hosts than Paul and Claire. If you have any interest in the local history and culture they are an amazing resource. We had an amazing time at Rawene cottage and would strongly recommend it as a place to stay.

Friendly, cosy and clean!
The place was clean and the heated floors and beds were ready for us when we arrived late the first night. Paul and Claire were kind enough to let my mother and father park their Caravan in the driveway so they could stay near me and the wife and kids. We woke up after the first night to find an abundance of fruit trees in the garden. The manderins were amazingly sweet too. Board games available for the kids and the WiFi connection was also fantastic. We've definitely found our 'go to' when we're up next. Thanks for the hospitality Claire and Paul!

We had a happy relaxed stay in this wonderful cottage
We had a happy relaxed stay in this wonderful cottage. The garden setting is a delight and there is a lovely view of the harbour from the deck and within easy walk to the township/cafes. Paul and Claire are welcoming and thoughtful hosts providing a generously stocked pantry and well equipped kitchen with everything you could need. A perfect location for exploring the gentle Hokianga. We really enjoyed our stay thank you.
