About this property

The Quilted Log, a cozy, compact cabin In the woods, very clean, perfect for 4-6

Experience Door County country living in The Quilted Log, a remodeled and modernized 1,050 sq. ft. log home/cabin located at 6102 Cty Rd T, Sturgeon Bay 54235 (actually West Jacksonport).

This cabin is cleaned using CDC guidelines and extra cleaning protocols to ensure you a worry-free stay, ready for relaxation and enjoyment. The open-concept house features walnut-stained logs complimented by white kitchen cabinetry and soft LED lighting. The one-story structure is updated with new vinyl tile flooring and carpet throughout. The bathroom is bright with a walk-in, full-size seated shower and a generous single sink vanity. A laundry closet located across from the bathroom offers a washer and dryer for visitors' use.

This home, lovingly titled “The Quilted Log”, is decorated with several handmade scrappy quilts which the owner and her sister designed and sewed, hoping you enjoy the personal touch.

The Quilted Log comfortably accommodates 4-6 people . There are two bedrooms each with a queen-size bed, and the living room with a new, full-size, pull-out love seat to sleep 2 more. The dining and living rooms each have ample seating for 6.

The cabin features an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with a 12-cup coffeemaker, toaster, refrigerator/freezer, microwave and electric range, but no dishwasher (requiring one to go back to the good old days!) The dining room features a unique castle-looking chandelier above the table. Windows allow for viewing all sides of the yard. The living room stone fireplace features a glowing ambience from its electric log insert. Two comfy rocker/recliners, an old-fashioned wooden rocker, a cushioned pull-out love seat, and a unique quilted arm chair allow one to enjoy the feel of "sitting by the fire."

The Smart TV offers local networks, Wisconsin Public Television, the Create channel, and several old movie channels. The TV accepts your Netflix, Roku accounts, etc. for further choices. Otherwise, station choices are limited by whatever the antenna can receive. For your convenience, the cabin has wireless Mi-Fi connection to the internet, although with a slow speed.

The Quilted Log is not air conditioned, but the full-thickness logs act as great insulators against hot and humid conditions. The 7-1/2" log thickness also allows for cozy warmth amidst winter cold.

The backyard patio features a gas grill and comfortable seating with an umbrella table for 4-6. A small front patio features comfortable seating where you can enjoy a morning cup of joe.

The quiet country property is nestled amongst cedar, maple and pine trees which are especially colorful in the Fall and pristine in the winter snows. Deer and turkeys frequent the woods and forage on available vegetation. Corn and grain fields stretch beyond the property, giving one a feel of relaxing in country living.

If biking is your passion, Cty Rd T is popular with bicyclists, well paved with easy access to other country roads. Safe bike storage is guaranteed in the property's garage. If snowmobiling is more to your liking, there is an ample driveway area for parking snowmobile trailers. The county's trails begin about a mile from the cabin.

The long driveway boasts a roomy back-up area for easy maneuverability and ample room to store boats in the summer. Dock access for the Bay is found at The Quarry on Highway B or The Village Dock in Egg Harbor. Lake Michigan access is available at nearby Whitefish Bay or Baileys Harbor.

Plan a summer vacation for your small family, a friend get-away to enjoy the Fall colors, or make holiday plans in the quiet country. Being 12 miles from Sturgeon Bay allows one to shop for groceries at Econo Foods, Pick 'n Save, or Wal-Mart, enjoy a meal at local restaurants, and browse many unique downtown stores. Wal-Mart, Target, and TJ Max are available for everyday needs.

Picture yourself sledding on the hills, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, or just walking paths in winter’s snow. Potawatomi State Park, Peninsula State Park, and the Whitefish Dunes State Park are only miles away to enjoy Mother Nature at her finest. Warm yourselves at The Quilted Log by wrapping in quilted throws, drinking a cup of steaming coffee or hot chocolate, and playing cards or board games for a fun, close-knit time together.

As you plan a visit to beautiful Door County, select this unique, peaceful, clean country home which will have you saying “Here we can just sit back and relax!” Make your rental choice The Quilted Log.

Great place, great location
The cabin was perfect for my wife and I and another couple while visiting Door County. The centralized location made it easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit. You can tell the owners take pride in the place, and they should. It's a great little cabin!

We absolutely love this property. Everything was super clean and all the furnishings were very comfortable. Great ambiance - to the point one of our party said “I could live here”. We were privileged to meet and visit with Al and Fran. Great people and hosts!!

Home away from Home
The Quilted Log cabin is a true gem and a perfect place for families or couples looking for peace and quiet in a cozy home environment. My adult daughters and I stayed here for a 3 day weekend and wished we had booked it for longer. After a full day of hiking and being outdoors, it was such a wonderful place to come back to with all the comforts of home. We cooked a couple meals during our stay and really enjoyed the coziness and comfort of the home. It is clear that the owners put a lot of love and hard work into the place. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and the added bonus was that we were able to meet the owners, who simply couldn’t have been nicer. We will definitely be visiting again!

Perfect Cozy Cottage Stay!
Wonderful long weekend experience at the Quilted Log! Our group of 4 stayed for a long fall weekend l. Fran and Al were fantastic with communication. The house is spotless, with plenty of room and lovely seasonal touches and decorations. We enjoyed being nestled in the woods/ but still a short drive to the cities :-)

Owner, Al Birnschein, has lived in West Jacksonport all of his 81 years, growing up on the "Iron Ore Farm" located around the corner from The Quilted Log. Currently his brother owns the homestead farm and all the fields surrounding the cabin. When Al desired a house of his own in the 60s, Al purchased a parcel of the farm from his father, built his ranch-style house, and settled in with his wife and children. In 1978, a couple from Chicago bought the lot across from Al's, constructed a compact log home, and moved in. Al's dream of someday annexing that property to his was squashed. But good things come to those who wait! His dream became reality after the owners and then their son passed away, leaving the property to friends living in Illinois. No one was nearby to care for the property. When the Illinois friends realized the miles were against them caring for the cabin, they decided to offer it for sale. Al made an offer which they accepted, and his dream of ownership became reality. Living directly across from the cabin was perfect for keeping his eye on the property, spending countless hours remodeling and updating, and caretaking the cabin's needs.
Co-owner, Fran Richter, age 71, married Al in 2011 and relocated from bustling Ephraim to quiet Jacksonport where Al was town chairman. Fran knew nothing about Jacksonport living, growing up in Mosinee, Wisconsin, later living in DePere and Green Bay, then moving to Ephraim in 1994 with her first husband and family. She met Al after both had lost their respective spouses. Fran worked from her Ephraim house as a medical transcriptionist, but lost her job due to Epic technology. Fran offered her house and cottage as VRBO rentals, but sold her property in May 2021. She loves to quilt, and decorating The Quilted Log with handmade quilts is her way of welcoming visitors with her personal touch.

Why they chose this property

Located directly across from our house, The Quilted Log property is so convenient for us to operate, manage, and oversee. We hope to meet all of our visitors and welcome them to our peaceful countryside of Door County.

What makes this property unique

A newly remodeled and modernized log home/cabin on Cty Rd T in West Jacksonport, 12 miles from "the big city" of Sturgeon Bay with its restaurants and shopping, but near to Jacksonport with its kayaking, Mike's Port Pub, Island Fever, and New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge, and just miles from popular dining, beer and wine bars, and unique shopping in Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor, Fish Creek, and northern Door.
