About this property

Farmland guest cottage - 2 beds/1.5 bath/Sleeps 2, near Silverton, Oregon

If you need some space to breathe, our country cottage is calling you. We are on 10 acres nestled in the rolling hills of Willamette Valley farmland. Located 6 miles east of Salem and about a 10 minute drive to the quaint town of Silverton (home of the beautiful Oregon Gardens), you'll find we are a short drive to a multitude of attractions and activities for every palette. Our property is situated in the rural pastoral area outside of the cities of Salem, Silverton and Stayton/Sublimity. Most of the land surrounding us is used for farming of grass seed, grapes, wildflower seed, Christmas trees, hay and hazelnuts. Our newly remodeled 600 sq. ft. cottage is furnished and stocked in a way to provide soothing rest for your soul. Read on...

Our cottage is set up as a private 1 bedroom/1.5 bath studio-ish cottage with two beds (sorry, but we absolutely can not accommodate over 2 people) with the comforts of a home in mind. While you may see us out and about on our farm, we will respect your privacy while you stay at the private detached guest cottage. The deck attached to the cottage is private, intended for your use only. Relax with cup of Joe while taking in the pastoral views, or sit by the fire pit and roast your dinner (firewood provided). If you'd rather view the scenery from inside, you are in luck as the cottage is filled with windows that let the natural light in. Styled with an eclectic flair (a little bit retro, a touch of mid century modern, a dash of farmhouse, and a snippet of traditional), furnishings and simple decorations were selected carefully to invite you in!

This cottage sleeps up to two (2) adults. PLEASE NOTE that we are not able to accommodate children or pets/animals. There is a queen bed in the bedroom and a double/full bed tucked behind the living room seating area (all with plush bedding!). The bedroom has a heavy curtain to pull for privacy (hence our description that the cottage is studio-ish). The full kitchen is stocked with basic kitchen gear for cooking in, or a short drive into one of the towns or cities can provide a bite to eat (Salem is about 7-10 minutes, towns of Silverton, Sublimity and Stayton also around 10 minutes, Albany 25 minutes or so, Eugene 45 minutes, Portland area about 1 hour). A cozy sofa and two side chairs will provide you a pleasant viewing area should you want to catch a show on the complementary cable/ROKU TV or use our WIFI for your electronics. The half-bath off of the main sleeping space also houses a full sized washer and dryer (laundering supplies provided) should you require it during your visit. The shower in the main bathroom does have a fold-down bench option. A ductless heating/air conditioning unit will keep you comfortable no matter the weather. During the holiday season there will be a farm themed Christmas tree to enjoy (from after Thanksgiving through the first of the new year).

We are a complete NO smoking property (applies to in the cottage, outside of the cottage, and on the entire property). If you are a smoker this is probably not the best fit for you.

If you'd like to venture outside, the sky is the limit here in God's country! Feel free to introduce yourself to our "working farmhands" alpaca, sheep and free range chickens mowing the grasses in our fields, keeping in mind we ask you to stay on the non-farm animal side of the fences. Or venture farther to hike the many trails in the area, including Silver Falls State Park, visit the famous Oregon Gardens, or head to the coast which is under 2 hours drive away. There are multiple options for visiting vineyards and wineries (as close as 3 miles away), as well as craft breweries. We are also a convenient choice for the business traveler as well, as we are located 6 miles from I-5. we are also a good option for those coming to the area to visit students...Corban University is 8 miles away from us, Willamette University is under 8 miles, and Chemeketa Community College is 10 miles.

We are sorry but we are not able to allow pets/animals in the cottage. The inside of our cottage is a pet-free zone. We have animals that live on the property the cottage sits on - Two farm dogs, working mouser cats, alpacas, sheep and free range chickens can be found here. Therefore bringing an unfamiliar pet/animal to the cottage would not be compatible, and we also want to keep the environment a pet allergy-free zone as we do use this space for our own family members occasionally, who do suffer from certain allergies. Guests should note our resident cat is extremely friendly and will wait on the cottage deck for human interaction (yours!). If you are highly allergic to cats or do not find yourself fond of them, this may not be the property for you. While she is outdoor only, she absolutely wants to be fawned over by all humans, which may cause problems for those highly allergic.

Hosts live on the property in a separate dwelling and are available to assist with questions or concerns as needed. We may or may not be home when you arrive as we stay pretty busy, but you may self-check in with a key code. The cottage and other dwellings on the property do share some yard space (though the deck to the cottage is completely for your use). You will see other dwelling buildings out one side of the cottage windows and will drive by them in your way to your designated parking area. We have included shots in our photos showing the cottage in proximity to the other dwellings. While we do live here, know that we do make an effort to respect your privacy and space, however if our paths cross we will certainly greet you!

Love returning each time!
This is our third stay at this amazing cottage. We love coming down to the Silverton area to get away from the city, see the friendly alpacas, and spend lots of quality time with BB8.

Long college weekend visit
We have been coming to Salem for 4 years now and this was by far our favorite place to stay. The cottage was more than big enough for my husband and I- then had my daughter and her college roommates visit for dinners, it was amazing! The puppers were sweet and would sit for treats- the cat loved the pets and scratches! We could watch the alpacas graze in the morning and took walks by the goats. It was just close enough and far enough from Salem. We took some time to see the east part of Salem- went to Gallon House Covered Bridge, and the Willamette Pie Company (twice)-highly recommend the Marrionberry pies! Both are must-sees and very close.

About the host

Hosted by Tiffany Baskett

Host profile image
Tiffany and Mike are the hosts of the TKB Farm Cottage. Tiffany is a mother of two boys who's real name is "Hey, Mom". Trying to manage the long comedy sketch (humor is simply a survival skill at this point) that is a household which includes two active boys is what fills her days. Some days that includes hiding in the closet from them after sneaking the chocolate from their Halloween baskets. Truth. This gig is not for the faint of heart.

Mike is a man on a mission. Nearing retiring age, he is counting down the days for when "all in a day's work" equates hitching up the boat and heading to a lake for a little jig pitchin' and tube flippin'. Bass fishing is in this man's blood. It's a love he's doing his best to instill in his boy's upbringing as well.

Met and married in the early 2000's, we have recently returned to our roots, so to speak, and have ditched the city life of our 20's and 30's for country living. We are in a season of parenthood in our lives, and a simple but well-rounded existence is what we crave, with room to roam for our children to grow up exploring. We are blessed to live where we do, and feel we can share a little piece of our private everyday getaway with you through offering our place as a lodging option!

Why they chose this property

It is off the beaten path...but still just a few minutes drive to the hustle and bustle of city life if desired. Perfectly located in an area with much to explore and see. On-site hosts that are pretty laid back and are happy to let you do your thing, or happy to chat awhile if that's what you'd like!

What makes this property unique

Experience the beauty, quieter pace, and space the country setting here offers...but know you are a short drive to the city (under 10 minutes) should you want to explore there. And...we find guests love watching our alpacas that graze the fields below the cottage!
