Kapaa is often overlooked for the northshore and Poipu.
Kapaa is often overlooked for the northshore and Poipu. It is actually the pulse of the island and you will run into more locals here. Restaurants are conveniently located and a wide variety at decent prices.

Kapaa is a great central location.
Kapaa is a great central location. The traffic is bad, but most people drive with the Aloha spirit and let you merge in front of them. I would stay there again but definitely avoid booking anything through Booking.com! Finding a reasonably-priced place to eat is a real challenge, not only in Kapaa but everywhere on the island. I spent almost $100 for two of us to eat at a Mexican restaurant.

This was a great location for our stay on the island of Kauai. FIfteen minutes from the airport in Lihue. Easy access to the bike path and beaches. Great little downtown with excellent coffeeshops, shopping and restaurants.

We chose Kapaa because of it's proximity to the beach and to the Hindu Monastery which we visited multiple times. Turned out to be a great choice because it also seemed quieter compared to the beach crowds we saw in Poipu or Hanalei/Princeville. There's a grocery in walking distance to the hotel, small stores as well in a strip mall, great restaurants (the top rated Mexican restos are in Kapaa) all at fairly reasonable prices compared to what we saw in other parts of the island.

Was only there for 2 nights to attend a family wedding. Stayed there many years ago for a week. Handy location and if you're staying longer or with a family it is very comfortable with plenty of space for 4 people.

Small town feel.. Intimate and non touristy.
Could be beneficial to have a good listing of restaurants.. .some have closed but still seen on line.
Took a Helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian.. excellent pilot and coverage of the island.
Visited an Indian Monastry - Shiva Temple. Excellent and spiritual feeling. Calm and peaceful
Customer service training could be useful for local residents.
Very accommodating hosts, they provided us with all the essentials- coffee, some fruit including fresh cut pineapple, cookies and lots of great advice on where to go & what to see. Liked location, very quiet, but yet very centrally located to the town of Kapaa. The koi pond & garden area is absolutely breathtaking & so relaxing. Wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to come back to Kauai & we know where we’re staying!
The room was not too big but also not small. My husband and I were very comfortable. The BED was extremely comfortable as well and our room location was perfect. Our room window faced the beach and our patio had a beach view as well. the location of the hotel was great too. it was actually perfect for me how close everything was because we couldn't get a rental car and I was able to limp everywhere with my injured leg.
Beautiful property with fabulous pond and garden literally right outside our bedroom- koi carp, dragonflies, birds and so many lizards. We loved it. Fresh fruit provided, plenty of coffee etc and good little kitchen where we could make pasta. Easy parking, lovely host and great area for seeing Kauai. Sooo much nicer than staying in a resort hotel, would highly recommend.
We had an oceanfront room, which I would highly recommend. There is no air conditioning so an oceanfront room is a good choice for that reason as well. I have been to Kauai 14 times and have stayed at Kaha Lani every time but one. The view is amazing. Centrally located. You do not hear the traffic (just the ocean and the roosters :)
Livin by the beach!!! one of the best properties I have stayed in, felt like home and we loved how it was apartment-hotel style. having our own washer and dryer and having a kitchen where we can make home-cooked meals was just so great. Having our own quiet beach was such an amazing experience. Will definitely be back
Just stepped away from beach! Convenient location.
We really enjoyed our stay at Kapaa Sand unit #15.
There is no A/C in the unit but ceiling fan is in each room. Nice and breezy at night.
They have provided a soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and clean towels.
We would love to come back again:)
The condo had great facilities and customer service was extremely responsive to our questions. We found the kitchen and laundry well equipped and appreciated the extra beach equipment. The check in and out process was quick and easy. We would recommend others in Kauai to stay here.
Outstanding view. Comfortable beds. Resonable prices.. Yoga & bikes to use. Tranquillity, except for the wild roosters in the morning, LOL. I didn't mind the roosters at all,, but I did grow up on a farm. We hated to leave. If I ever get back to Kauai, this is where I would stay.
I have stayed in your hotel many times back when I came to Kauai more regularly! I like how central it seems. Although I rarely go south, I like being able to if I want~easily. And it's proximity to Hanalei is great for me and my needs!
We really liked the location of the hotel, since it is right on the beach. Also, next to the hotel (2 min walking distance) there are several restaurants, shops and even a market, which was really helpful
The place near the ocean is unique, it is quite secluded and the atmosphere of the house is authentic ‘beachy’. Everything you need during your stay is available and otherwise Ellen is there to help.
Did not have breakfast there. Location of Pono Kai was perfect for traveling to sites North and South Kauai....also convenient to shop and dine in neighborhood (Kapaa, Waipole, Lihue, Nawiliwili).
10/10 staff and rooms are air-conditioned which is a rare find in Kauai at this rate! My first unit didn’t have hot water and the front desk staff upgraded me to a different suite with no issues.
Great location, beautiful pool and grounds, very good beach access and near the Kauai bike path. Nicely appointed, clean unit. Safeway grocery is super close, as are bicycle and snorkel rentals.
Hotel prices on Kauai have gone crazy. This hotel seems to be one of the only ones that charges fairly. Bikes were great in the morning. Beach access is wonderful.
The hotel was way better than we were expecting, huge rooms, comfortables beds in the best location. Staff were amazing too! 10/10 definitely recommend.
