Hidden gem situated just a stone's throw away from the city center. Shielded by its tall walls, it provides a surprising quietude amidst the Huaraz chaos. The beautifully landscaped gardens amplify this tranquility, giving a peaceful break from the city's hustle. Breakfast was a plentiful buffet where the staff ensures every detail is attended to. The room was cozy, with a notably comfortable bed. While Huaraz can have its water and electricity challenges everything runs seamlessly at the hotel, there were enough electrical plugs in the room and there was always hot water in the shower.
What truly set this hotel apart for me, though, was the staff. Every individual I interacted with was exceptionally friendly and went above and beyond to make sure I felt at home. A special mention to the owner – his passion for the place shines through, and his warmth and welcoming nature made my stay all the more memorable. An oasis of calm and hospitality, I highly recommend this hotel.

The place is beautiful, there are numerous inviting common spaces, and it is a place to meet and talk to other travelers. The room I got was with a balcony and two beds. The room was large and hot water and room cleaning everyday. The staff were nice too. The best part were the extra suede blankets that they have for the room which smelt really nice and was warm which is rare to get in South America.

Really interesting city with great options for visiting a number of natural and historical sites: 2.5 hours to Chavin de Huantar, 2 hours to glaciers and mountain lakes. The city is teeming with travel operators to take you there - there are also colectivos at your own risk. Lots of restaurants of various cuisines, including both tourist-focused places and more local ones. We even found some good vegetarian options - especially at Paulino's Indian and Casa de Zarela Thai.

Like Cusco and Lima, it was a crowded city of aggressive drivers constantly honking and spewing exhaust. Prices were higher than Cusco with less souvenir shopping. Maybe choose a place a little outside the town or another town that is closer to most of the day trips--it'll save u bus time too.

Huaraz is a great location as a base for mountaineering and hiking. At an altitude of 3000m you can retain your acclimatization there. There is a good supermarket Trujillo where you can get most food for the mountains, good restaurants with nice artisanal beer, stores with basic hiking equipment and gas. The town is chaotic but in a nice kind of way and seems to be safe.

A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains.
A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains. Lots of great trekking with stunning views and such a different range of scenery. Snow and ice with glaciers, or big crevasse strewn hills, or stunning big valleys with views over Huaraz. Lots of outdoor shops, lots of good places to eat and doesn't feel at all touristy.

Not really a nice city.
Not really a nice city. There is the Museum in the center of the city worth seing, with a garden of (real) Chavin stones.
Food is terrible. Almost all restaurants, expensive or unexpensive, only serve fried stuff with fried potatoes and eventually a sallad that I would not dare to eat. Alternatives are pizzas and pastas. But one does not travell up to the mountains to eat such kind of commercial food and so heavy.
We took a private car for a city tour at 5 p.m. He took us to various places. Interesting. We asked him if there was something to do in the evenings, like a cinema or a theater, and he said there was nothing going on like that in Huaraz.
It is a place to stop for starting a several days trip mounaineering or mountain walks, like to the mountains, or in our case we planned a 2 days trip to Chavin de Huantar (archeaology and nature).
People in Huaraz are generally speaking quite hostile, even locals to each other, prices are higher than in Lima (apparently there is much money circulating as the result of all the the mines around), service in restaurants and cafes is quite bad. What is offered, is in most cases is not what they really have once you start to order. If you have to go to Huaraz for starting your trip to the mountains or elsewhere, take it relaxed, stay cool, don`t expect too much and you will notice some little cool details here and there.
One of my favourite hostel experiences ever. Humberto makes you feel like home from the first minute and gives you lots of recommendations for activities in Huaraz. He even took me rock climbing one day, had so much fun! Luckily I was staying at this place when I got sick for 2 weeks, I was taken care of in the best and sweetest way. Don't think that I ever was sick and still had so much to laugh about everyday haha. I already miss the little hostel family, especially the cutest andean lion of the world. Gracias por todo, un abrazo!
We arrived terribly late in the night due to a bus delay of several hours. However, we were still able to check in at 2 am (once we had figured out the entrance was on the side of the building!).
Our suite was spacious, quite comfortable and remarkably cheap.
The hotel is located in the center of Huaraz, three blocks from the biggest city square (Plaza de Armas), with several restaurants nearby. It also has a terrace on the third floor from where you have a nice view of the Cordillera Blanca.
Luis was a phenomenal home manager, giving useful tips & Recommendations from the moment of our arrival. The property wasn't on a main street which made me feel safer there, and has a really yummy Chifa restaurant on the main road it's adjacent to. The hotel inside was clean, had functional Netflix and good enough Wifi. The breakfasts where good, with a choice between pancake & egg with yogurt/granola, coffee/tea, fruits and toast! Beds were really comfy and there was warm water.
We stayed at Churup Hotel for 6 nights in 2 different rooms Double (3rd floor) and Twin (2nd floor). The twin is slightly bigger but both are very comfortable.and quiet. The hotel is very eclectically decorated. There are lounges on each level, a warm fireplace in the common area and even a rooftop terrace. Accommodation is 10/10. Churup is located close to a small square which often has lively evening activities. There are also restaurants and minimarts located quite close.
The hosts are great. The location is great and we had a very nice time. We can to Huaraz to hike in the area and we're glad that we picked this place. From the Lazy Dog, we could go out walking to different trails. Otherwise, everything requires a car ride on very poor and bumpy roads. Besides the good location, it was a pleasure to know the hosts and meet other guests. It's a remote location so not everything works like it would in a city, but overall it was very nice.
During our trip in Peru - staying at Selina in Huaraz was one of the best places.
It’s such a warm, welcoming and fun place to stay in the middle of nowhere. Probably the best in Huaraz.
We really appreciated the tips the crew & manager gave us. We weren’t prepared very well but they helped us with the rental of hiking sticks, etc.
We had already stayed in different Selina Hotels but this one was better.
I really like the staff in the hotel. Mayra helped us a lot and gave us a new room. She was very helpful with everything during our stay. Rodolfo who manages the tours were such an amazing person! He helped us to book tours with his company chasing! Due to sickness, we need to change plans and he made us a memorable tour to Nevado Mateo last minute. Thanks a lot Rodolfo :-)
The best place to stay in Huaraz. Chris’s communicate on whatsapp makes for an excellent trip. We arrived late in the evening and he booked us a tour for the next day with ease. Also gave us excellent recommendations for food. The rooms, bathrooms and kitchen are simple but everything you need after a long day of exploring the beautiful Huaraz. Chris was amazing!
We loved our stay here in Tony's house. The atmosphere is amazing and Carla the owner is an angle. She helped us with booking the agency for the Santa Cruz Trek or the bus for our following journey. She bakes the best pies and pizzas btw;) We wish you all the best Carla, thanks for making our incredible stay here in Huaraz possible.
This has been one of my favorite Hostal in Peru. A great vibe full of a lot of Avid hikers. A nice breakfast served every morning.
The staff were very helpful and happy to answer any of your questions. They were also very relaxed. It's really a perfect base for those looking to stay in Huaraz longer.
I highly recommend it.
The receptionist - gold star. Amazing how being greeted by a friendly smile makes you feel welcome and at home, plus she helped us throughout our stay. I wish I remembered her name, she made the hotel outstanding even without perfect facilities. She was a young lady with 3 letters in her first name
Friendly and helpful staff. We booked our own guide before we got there but the prices Lhotse were offering were very good for all the key hikes you'll want to do. Good breakfast with great views. Even stored our luggage and let us use facilities before our bus out of Huaraz.
The staff was very helpful and kind, specially Hisao. We were able to book tracks very easely at the hotel reception. Hisao has a great knowledge about the area in Huaraz and the surrounding and so he was able to help us much. The breakfast was extensive and delicious.
The place was somewhat near downtown.. the street that the hotel is located at is really quiet. the rooftop of the hotel has a nice view and its really nice. The Lady that runs the breakfast is really nice and took care of us real well, super friendly
Great location, owner will help you with tours and also very flexible with my departure time. Breakfast was also cooked by owner who made nice omelette!
Would recommend for families and solo travellers exploring the amazing landscapes of Huaraz.
Great all around……Edison spoke English very well and was excellent to deal with. Secure parking for the bike was under the hotel in a palatial and fancy garage!! Breakfast and supper was great too. Would defiantly stay here again!!
It is a family business. Owner went to the airport and took us to the hotel. We did all tours trough them. Walking distance about 15 minutes from main Plaza. Clean facilities and good price. We enjoy our stay!
Owner super helpful and knowledgable with planning your stay in Huaraz. The rest of the staff are very nice and helpful as well. Hostel is very sociable and meeting other travelers is easy and fun.
