Our first time in Ullapool, but it won't be the last time...
Our first time in Ullapool, but it won't be the last time there and we will definitely stay at "The Wreck" or "The Ruin" on our next trip. The location is right beside the Sea Loch about 1-mile north of Ullapool on the A835 (probably walkable in the longer daylight). On our first night into Ullapool we came across a great "dog friendly" pub/restaurant called The Ceilidh and we liked the place and the friendly staff and a good menu - we ate there each evening.
The houses in Ullapool are laid out in a fishing village style and east to get around ... hunting down the Tesco Food Store was a challenge So i had to use Google Maps (lol).
Sadly, visiting Ullapool in Late February means that many place are closed but there was enough to occupy us, and of course plenty to do in and around the area:
* Ullapool Hill
* The Bothy Cafe every morning (you can sit in too)
* The Ceilidh Pub each night
* Northerly road trips to:
- Scourie Bay
- Balnakeil Bay
- Durness
- Smoo Caves
* Southern and Western road trips to:
- Applecross
- Corrieshalloch Gorge (is a must do)

Ullapool surprised us, it was not as big as we expected but, that is not a negative, it is a beautiful little town. We had the best fish and chips from a take away. We bought books in a lovely book store near the hotel. The people are lovely and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay there in a beautiful hotel.

Ullapool is a quiet and charming village set on a harbour...
Ullapool is a quiet and charming village set on a harbour where the Stornaway Ferry departs twice a day. It is a very picturesque spot. People are very friendly. The Caladonian hotel has a good restaurant and a lovely tearoom for lunches and snacks. There are several places to enjoy local seafood. I stayed at the Millview B&B which was a short walk from the ferry, and walking distance to the local supermarket. It was a great place and Dawn was a terrific host. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bed and bedding were very comfortable.

Pretty little village. Gateway to the isles via the ferry.
Pretty little village. Gateway to the isles via the ferry. Locals were friendly. A great outdoor shop (Ullapool Outdoors) with good walking and camping gear at reasonable prices. Not many coffee shops to be had. It has a supermarket which is very useful. Very few other shops. Some lovely eateries. Also a great place to see the surrounding area.

A lovely little town.
A lovely little town. Very helpful staff at the museum, with great tips on how to spend time in the area. As a result got to attend Chicken Day at Elphick! An absolute delight. The Museum itself was very interesting. Loved the bars at the Argyll and at the Ferry Boat Inn.

Ullapool is quaint popular place with a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants. We found that most places closed around 5. We were able to get a meal in a local hotel. We were lucky to see a lovely sunset across the harbour.
Thank you, Lochview Guest House, for your prompt action to arrange for our stay at the neighboring B&B! That worked out really well and salvaged our stay in Ullapool. It would have been disastrous if we had been forced to find other lodging on short notice, since there would probably not have been anything available because the neighboring B&B took us in more as a favor to the owner of Lochview Guest House, since their sign indicated that they had no vacancies. Luckily, the owner of Lochview Guest House spared us that trouble.
The perfect place.
Tucked away off the road out of Ullapool, its the perfect spot to relax for a few days or a quick stop on the NC500.
Owners were great, rooms are clean and some serious OCD touches (toilet paper folded, all the complimentary shampoo/moisturiser bottles facing the same way, everything in line.
Never stayed in such a perfectly presented hotel.
Super super clean.
Breakfast in the morning was perfect and the views of the Loch while you eat are to die for.
The staff were friendly the breakfast was great especially considering it was included in the room price. Considering it is rated as a 2 star hotel, it is pretty much what you'd expect. Rooms were adequate, everything worked, shower was fine. At that price and 2 stars it's not going to be super luxury so don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. We were stopping for a night on route to another destination and it served it's purpose as a stopover.
As described Ardlair is a really well appointed B&B, with wonderful views over Loch Broom.
The room was very clean and glamorous on a par with a 4 star hotel. Due to current COVID restrictions there wasnt a breakfast available but there was an option for a continental meal and plenty of breakfast snacks and coffees. I loved the wee decanter of whisky, much needed after a long drive.
Thank you for a great place to base our break in Ullapool.
The Arch Inn is situated on the loch side in Ullapool. We had a very pleasant and recently modernized room with great views out across the loch. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The Inn does have a very busy bar and restaurant so be sure to book if you want a table just as soon as you arrive. The food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. The breakfast is also plentiful and very good.
This was my fifth stay in this small hotel. They provide a great breakfast to start the day. The hotel is in a quiet location on the edge of town, perfect for an uninterrupted sleep. Excellent facilities in room and beautifully clean. The bed was so comfortable. Parking right by the entrance. I've stayed in several hotels in Ullapool and this is by far the best I've experienced.
The location was okay, with a 15 minute walk into Ullapool. Ullapool itself was rather uninviting, perhaps due to roadworks on the main road, very overpriced e.g £19.99 for fish and chips.
The hotel was very clean and the duvet was particularly soft and comfortable. There was lots of choices of teas and coffees in the room and welcome treats.
Booked several weeks ago the reviews were not good . But wow ! the hotel has had a make over and was very impressive. The rooms were very well appointed , the food in the Restaurant delicious . Delightful staff , ready to help nothing was too much . The location in Ullapool fantastic right in the town . Definitely will go again good value .
Perfect B&B in perfect location, close to everything in Ullapool but set on a quiet, leafy street. Big, comfortable room, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Imaginative touches include real milk available in the lounge, woodburner lit on request and a selection of single malts for guests to try. Fabulous breakfast.
Beautiful views, convenient and close to Ullapool. Jamie gave us such a warm welcome, and was very helpful in giving us suggestions of things to do around the area. Breakfast was great, and room was quiet and comfortable.
Friendly staff, small but very clean room, excellent evening meal & breakfast, although We thought that it was a bit overpriced at £150/ night
When we got an excellent hotel at Ullapool for the same price.
The hosts were very helpful and accommodating, with the ferry service being disrupted. The breakfast served was very good, the location was wonderful.
When in Ullapool, book the Riverside!
The location is perfect. The hotel is located on the main street and has a restaurant on site that serves fresh seafood. The room was large and comfortable.
