Winchester is a delightful place to visit.
Winchester is a delightful place to visit. It blends the old with the new extremely well. The cathedral has to be seen inside. A guided tour is available which is essential to appreciate fully the cathedral's remarkable history.
Further attractions are the wide range of excellent restaurants and pubs, museums and historic buildings.

Lovely historical sites and museums.
Lovely historical sites and museums. A walk along the trail was refreshing and seeing Winchester from Saint Catherine's Hill and lunch at the Handle Bar cafe at Saint Catherine's Hill was good value for money, lovely fresh panini's and friendly staff, not to mention the cake.
Plenty of eateries on an evening and quaint streets.

Winchester is a charming city which needs you to fully explore. As well as the Cathedral and Great Hall, you should walk right to the end of the High Street as see what is down each street- particularly at the top of the town. There is a wide variety of cafes and restaurants. We had a Nepalese meal at Marse which was great with "ancient grains".
The Tourist Information Centre were fantastically helpful. Do walk the Water Meadows on the other side of the Cathedral and visit St Cross- following the river and in the spirit of John Keats. Finally, walk around the ruins of Wolvesey Castle.

Nice city, good shopping and eateries on the pedestrianised high street. The Cathedral, the Mill, Wolvesey Castle (ruins) and the Great Hall are all worth a visit. Relaxing walks along the river and through small roads, the architecture is beautiful and the city has a good atmosphere. The church of St Swithun is a little gem and the Peninsula Barracks with the Military and Gurkha Museums are interesting. We didn’t have the time to see the Hospital of the Cross nor the Dean Garnier Garden nor the College but we are leaving these for our next visit.

Had a business meeting and a social event in the middle of the city. This hotel provided everything in a perfect location. The one-way system was tricky to navigate and the street signs are poor, but that's not the Hotel's fault.
Well situated for Winchester. We stayed for Xmas market. Bus stop right outside gates. Buses every half hour. Big hotel with free car parking. Absolutely best thing about it - The Staff! They were all so very friendly, helpful and nothing too much trouble. Really made the stay special. Would like to mention the breakfast team - kitchen cook was the most amazingly helpful person. Even when service closing at 9.30 she got everything out to cook a late-comer a breakfast and did it with a smile. Eggs cooked to order and nothing too much trouble!
From the moment we arrived we were treated exceptionally well. Our bags were taken up to our room whilst we went to park in the permitted areas. The room was very spacious and perfect for our needs. The breakfast that was pre-ordered each night was brought to our room at exactly the time requested, piping hot and everything ordered delivered. The location of the hotel to enable exploration of Winchester could not have been better and despite being in a town centre the room we stayed in "Nina Campbell" was extremely peaceful.
A big Winchester house not far from the center - so convenient and easy to reach. Delightful hosts and my room was better serviced than a hotel. Great range of drinks and snacks and beautifully decorated.. Well lit (which is not always the case) and very easy access. - I simply needed a bed f,or the night and that is what I got but I was sad I couldn’t spend a little longer enjoying the calm !
It is our second stay at the Running Horse. It is good value for money and rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. The toiletries in the bathroom are really good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok but slightly overpriced as the ingredients and the coffe are average. The location is in a pretty village just outside Winchester and there is free parking at the hotel.
Nice old hotel with a new block of rooms overlooking a nice garden.
Nice and close to town and all that Winchester has to offer, comfortable beds and decent size rooms, tea and coffee and a kettle in the room.
Carpark on site with a daily charge of £12.
Breakfast was £13 and needed to be booked the evening before, didn't make it as we out late at night.
Friendly and quick check in and out.
The location is fab. I've stayed here twice now - definitely worth booking the larger double as it is more than doubly nice (get a kettle and tea in the larger room, but not in the smaller?). The hotel was clearly once great and now is just a bit run down and shabby. Having said that, you can't get better value for money in Winchester!
Large, comfortable complete apartment! Two stories: bedroom and bathroom upstairs, great room including kitchen and living room/dining room downstairs. Everything is provided, including clothes washer and detergent! I couldn’t find the shampoo however. A few blocks from the bus stop going into Winchester.
We use this hotel regularly. There is a car park outside, which is an absolute god send compared to other Winchester hotels. The rooms are large, and there are windows you can open so they aren't claustrophobic. Overall, having stayed in all main Winchester hotels, this is the best option.
The location was excellent for attending a wedding in Winchester this weekend. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, our room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious! Thank you so much for having us and we hope to return one day to explore the area more.
Location is unsurpassed for Winchester. You really are in the centre of everything, minutes from the shop and cathedral, as well as the walking paths and St Catherine's Hill. The hotel is precisely what you would expect, with all the little luxuries. Highly recommend.
The view of Winchester Cathedral from the picture window in the room is outstanding. The hotel isn’t overlooked, it’s right in the centre of things, with lovely staff and is amazingly good value for money in an expensive town like Winchester.
It is very close to the downtown area of Winchester and close to the train station. Five minute walks. Beautifully maintained, and Esme is a superb host. So comfortable. We will definitely us it again for our regular visits to Winchester.
I like the fact that this is the closest hotel to the Boomtown Fair Festival and the beds are pretty omfortable and big. The rooms are also pretty spacious.
