Brilliant couple of days (not long enough) we did the ghost tour which we enjoyed although we didn't see any ghosts .The following day we did the Pentricott wilderness adventures which was Brilliant and in the afternoon we checked out Port Arthur in the daylight with the harbour cruise. Our over night stay was at The Fox and Hounds ,, Just brilliant!! Olde world charm Hotel with great staff , food, rooms and location.

The actual Convict area is simply amazing as are the free talks that occurred during the day. We were not fully prepared for the lack of outlets for food, lack of super market, restaurants etc. The one good out let offered a range of take away food but not good!

The historic site is magnificent and well managed. The general store is very disappointing, you should not rely on it if you are self catering Gabriel's, the restaurant by the beach , was excellent I recommend it. The restaurant at the Port Arthur motel featured poorly trained staff who seemed unaware of what service means. My girlfriend was served lukewarm seafood chowder with both the spoon and the garlic bread partially submerged. She asked for the chowder to be properly heated, this was seemingly done in a microwave. It was then returned with the same soggy bread.

Couldn't get into ghost tours or 1830 restaurant.. they were closed. Tried to get helicopter flight.. left message but never responded. Only 1 decent restaurant but the meals a bit light on considering price point and didn't seem to serve full meal. Loved the unzoo.

The Port Arthur area is beautiful, with glorious scenery and friendly people. The restoration of the Port Arthur Historical Site and the emphasis on truth versus “fairytale fantasy” does a great deal to enhance its appeal. It is not the miserable place that Australian historical literature has traditionally portrayed it as, but we discovered that it was, in fact, a combination of both progressive and regressive measures to reform prisoners. This is made clear by the information available. The staff are very responsive to visitors’ needs and questions, and literally go out of their way to help. Staff were always around everywhere on the grounds, and there was no shortage of help available. One example of this was when we were walking up towards the Soldier’s Memorial Avenue, and a chap driving a buggy asked if we wanted a lift. He then took us on a short, personalised tour of the entire grounds, answering the many questions we had and clarifying what we’d heard (thank you so much). Also, on our walking tour, I discovered I had not booked a time for the harbour cruise, so after we’d finished, our tour guide took the time to ring Reception and get us on the next cruise. The guided tours vary, however, according to personal knowledge and the sometimes political stance of the guides.

We didn't visit the Port Arthur historic site this time as we've been before, but if you've not ever been we would recommend that you do. Our accommodation was a short walk to Stewarts Bay Beach, the local shops and the Pennicott wilderness cruises office. We loved walking at Safety Cove Beach, which is a very short drive from Port Arthur - a great crescent of white sand backed by trees, where you are often the only people there. As you drive there, the view across the water to the cliffs and sea stacks is fabulous, and you also get glimpses into the Port Arthur site grounds.

The beds were very comfortable with nice sheets and comfortable pillows. Towels were nice. Inside the property was very clean and nicely decorated. The pantry was well stocked and we appreciated the fresh local bread and a decent/ sufficient sized fresh local milk for our duration. Coffee machine was a bonus once we read how to use it. View was nice as was the close location to Port Arthur Historical Site. House was clean and communication was really good. I would be happy to recommend this property to family and friends.

Viv has set up a beautiful accommodation in lovely part of Tasmania. It is spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and had everything you could need and one of the best breakfasts we've had. Plus new bread and biscuits. Copious amounts of information about the local area Anya detailed folder on how all the utilities work. Viv was a lovely and helpful hostess. This place has everything you need and more. Thanks for a lovely stay, Viv. We highly recommend a stay here.

Staff were super friendly and helpful particularly with a minor hiccup I had made with our booking. The owners rectified things promptly and easily. The facilities were great for the kids with great activities and safe areas for them to roam and play. The cabins were clean, tidy and well equipped. Highly recommend staying here!

I was so pleasantly surprised! my room was so well appointed and delightful and clean, with a brand new bathroom. the little kitchen was also great. the villas are located just behind the port Arthur historical site and just a 4 min drive away. This lodging is very close to the Port Arthur Historic Site. The restaurant on site offered great pub fare and we enjoyed dinner both evenings. They are not open for breakfast but the room has a hot pot , microwave and refrigerator so easy to prepare your own.
