Coober Pedy is a opal mining capital of the world. It is an interesting place to visit for a day or two to learn about its mining history, specific life in the Australian desert and to experience a true outback.

We have now stopped twice at Coober Pedy, once for lunch and fuel, and this time for an overnight sleep driving to Darwin and have no desire to ever return. Only reason to go there if you really need to stay underground or are interested in the mining history. The town has nothing to recommend itself.

Our favourite place for dining was the Big Winch 360 with a wide variety on the menu. The food was delicious too.
Our favourite places were the Breakaways which we visited twice in our three days stay. This was by far the highlight of our visit. We also visited the following exciting places:
1. Underground Serbian Ortgodox church
2. Underground Catholic Church
3. Old Timers Mine
4. Umoona Opal Mine and Museum
It is very easy to get around Coober Pedy

We had a great tour with Noble Tours.
We had a great tour with Noble Tours. Very informative, different locations, spectacular views.
Our Wrightsair trip to Painted Hills, Lake Eyre and William Creek was amazing, mind blowing.
Outback Bar and Grill - a roadhouse with delicious food breakfast, lunch or early dinner. The staff very friendly and accommodating.
360 Winch restaurant was great for a lazy Sunday afternoon lunch and drink.
We walked to a few of the sights in town eg Umoona Mine and Opalis, plus the IGA.
The Management staff Jo and Brent were very helpful and friendly, including driving me to and from the airport... also lending me a bicycle to better see and experience Coober Pedy... much appreciated!
I found the location very good... next to the Visitor Information Centre... and being just across the road from the Outback Bar and Grill, one of the few places in town to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner...

Manager Paul was fantastic to deal with. We were arriving to the town late at night, so he upgraded us to a property that would be easier to locate in the dark at no extra cost. The accommodation was amazing the way it was built, and it was nice and cool without any air conditioning. Highly recommend the experience staying underground. The place was pet friendly and our two little chihuahuas had the best time running around.
I reached Coober Pedy by bus at 7 am and I was prepared to wait for few hours to check in. But the stuff was kind enough to let me check in as soon as they had availability. The same happened during check out too. This was exceptionally comfortable. I underground that flexible timing completely depends on availability, but their willingness to help was outstanding. And facility wise this is the best in Coober Pedy.
The room was super cute, loved the aesthetic of it being underground and the style of hotel made me feel like I was in another country.
The room was quite spacious, beds were pretty comfy and the fan was great as there was no air-conditioning.
Friendly staff. Perfect outside area to watch sunset, cute little table and chairs and a swinging chair was a great touch.
The time and effort put into creating such a beautiful place shines through completely. Such attention to detail throughout the B&B, very impressive. Extremely clean and homely and the owners were friendly and informative, ensuring our stay was perfect. Great place to stay if you're wanting the underground feeling which is Coober Pedy. Highly recommend!
The underground stay experience was great! The location is on top of a hill with great views back into Coober pedy. The bedroom was massive and bed was comfortable.
Overall I would stay here again as the price is good compared to other accommodation options in town. Would be a great place when renovations are finished.
Probably one of the nicest places we have stayed in Coober Pedy. It’s beautifully renovated and modern.
Pet friendly too is always a bonus and well stocked for the little things like a bit of breakfast and milk if wanted
Unique underground experience - only in Coober Pedy! 18 m under ground, spacious, clean, outdoor area with bbq next to own kitchen. Friendly host and explains all the sights and things to do around town
If you don't stay underground in Coober Pedy you're missing out, and this place is great. It's sometimes the little things ... like a little washing powder on the washing machine ... thanks 😊
It is a motel so expect that level of facility BUT the staff (wife and husband team) are AMAZING. Super sweet and literally bent over backwards to help with everything “Coober Pedy”.
The staff at reception were lovely and offered a great first impression for my first time in Coober Pedy. Location was also great and within walking distance of most of the town.
Very friendly staff who gave us lots of information in regards what to see in Coober Pedy. Lovely spacious underground room with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Good wifi.
