Geographically Lamego is in a hollow. As I approached from the south in full sun in December you could see Lamego covered in mist, cold damp mist. It lasted for my 3 day stay and the sun was only visible as I left and approached the Duro River!
The accommodation was dia and the highlight was the cheerful taxi driver to took me out!!
Limited walking as two routes were terminated by loose snarling dogs!

Very pretty city, could have spent more time just hanging out and getting to know the city and way of life. If you are there just to walk to the top of the steps to see the cathedral, then one day is sufficient.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the amazing view, the park like garden, the heated indoor swimming pool. The breakfast was great so was our room which was very spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the view from our private terrace was amazing.
There was no restaurant on site so that meant having to drive into Lamego for dinner. We had a car so that didn’t bother us.
We would definitely stay again.

Do not miss the Sanctuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios.
Do not miss the Sanctuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios. Beautiful church built on top of a hill overlooking Lamego. Multiple terraces adorned with traditional Portuguese blue and white tiles lead up and down the property. One of the most beautiful places I have been to. I am surprised that the church is not talked about more often as a major attraction in the Duoro Valley.

We really enjoyed walking and visiting the towers, castles and churches it was like a travel back in time. Also because of the proximity we could take a boat tour in the Douro river. We drove from Lamego to Peso da Régua then by train to Pinhão to finish with a 2hrs boat tour.
Another unique experience was to drive on the N222. According to Avis who has crowned Portugal's N-222 as 'the road that offers the best driving experience in the world. From Peso da Régua to Pinhão.
With plenty of cafés, restaurants and bars food and drinks are there for you to choose. Is worth to know that after 22:00 most restaurants are closed but there are some like "O Cortelheiro" na rua das Cortes is open until 2:00am and you can have much more than a sandwiche.
Stop looking and just book this place with confident. It has an amazing view best location spot away from crowds but not far from historical city center. Comfortable bed wonderful service. Everything is top notch. Unless you want to stay in a four wall box hotel then be my guest. We stayed for 3 nights and still couldn’t get enough of the beauty watching sunrise from your own terrace. I can go on and on. Beatrice and Rui are so wonderful they made sure we were comfortable and happy with service. Also be sure you do wine tasting with them.
The hotel is beautiful. Our room was clean and spacious with so many little added touches. The hotel staff is one of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever met. Goncalo and Bruna at reception helped us plan our activities. They were so patient with us as we tried to pick what to do. I had a massage at the spa with Jessica and it was wonderful. The morning breakfast is absolutely delicious and the staff so nice and ready to help you start your day. I love this hotel so much, we will return in the spring! Highly recommend!
We loved everything about our stay here. Amazing view. Affordable. Very peaceful and the 2 people who work there were wonderful. We only stayed here for 2 days out of our 11 day stay but I really wish we would of stayed here longer. Check out was at noon and we stayed until noon because I didn’t want to leave. My daughter stayed at a nearby 5 star hotel and I liked our place much better the herbs and I am glad I made the choice to stay here.
The house is an old building made of rock boulders, carefully and tastefully refurbished, comfortable and functional. We enjoyed a lot. The surroundings are fabulous, the little green villages, the vineyards, the spectacular Douro valley, all these make this experience unforgettable. The nearby town of Lamego is absolutely fantastic, as is the christian Sanctuary.
Pleasantly shocked by the great size and comfort of this room. The renovation done at this property has created fantastic rooms. Big living room/kitchen, larger than normal bedroom and great bathroom. If we are back in Lamego, we would definitely stay again. Also, they had no issue supplying us with a couple of extra coffee pods in the morning.
This was a delightful hotel with superb, amiable and attentive staff at every point of contact. Spacious public areas, a beautiful dining room with stunning views and a very decent menu for the inclusive dinner option. An outstanding and easeful experience - no qualification whatsoever.
Nice family-owned hotel close to the tourism office in the center of Lamego. Very nice staff and owners. Big room with small balcony. Old-fashion interiors but very nice and clean. Walking distance to restaurants, bakeries and interesting monuments to visit.
This hotel is built into the side of a hill overlooking the Douro river. It is absolutely gorgeous and relaxing. It's away from the nearby town so very quiet and peaceful. The staff, from the front desk to the lovely restaurant, were all so friendly!
Our stay at 6/4 de Lamego was great. The room was compact and cosy, the bed and pillows were the most comfortable during our stay in Portugal. The breakfast was simple but everything we needed was there. All in all, I highly recommend this place.
Excellent Hotel in the middle of the vineyards and the Douro River. Nice place with beautiful views to the mountains and the city. Comfort and amenities to the right point and extremely professional staff and always ready to delight us.
Casa dos Viscondes is an old estate, converted into a hotel. The surrounding gardens and farm are beautiful. The hotel is set in a valley overlooking vinyards. The setting and the building itself are gorgeous. A very romantic place.
This small family owned hotel is a little paradise. Located in the middle of the wine yards, we found a very beautiful view over the Valley. Our Host Rui did everything to make our stay an outstanding experience.
Great location close to Lamego cathedral. Close to lots of restaurants. Modern decor. Good coffee machine. Great wireless internet. Fascinating old school building with its own chapel. Friendly and helpful host.
